Writer's Block: Out of fashion

Skinny jeans!! And I mean the ones that are so skinny you wonder how the person wearing them was able to get their foot through bottom leg opening. And especially when guys wear them. I can't understand how a guy can be comfortable in jeans that tight for obvious reasons. Hardly anybody really looks good in them - for women, if you have even the slightest amount of curve to your hips, they make your butt look huge; for guys...well, there is nothing flattering about super tight skinny jeans for any male figure.

Just a Vet Tech
Dec. 15th, 2008 10:59 pmThis is my job, plain and simple. It really touched me that somebody wrote this. It feels like a very thankless job a lot of them time, but read on to find out why it is worth it.
..Just a Vet Tech
When i arrive this morning to find the kennel attendent has quit without notice, every animal has emitted bodily secretions of one sort or the other, we have two heartworm treatments, an orthopedic surgery, a barium series, four spays, three neuters plus several dogs and cats to bathe and dip before noon.
When the vet is dashing out the door to lunch at noon spouting a schedule of medication, treatment instructions, dosages and reminders to give that cat enema and take another radiograph of that dog at one thirty as the door closes behind him and i realize that i won't be getting a lunch today.
When i take the dog on IV fluids for a walk on Sunday morning, lock the door behind me and then remember that my keys are inside the lab desk.
When I've been sprayed with cat urine and a dog expresses his anal glands on my new scrubs, clients are beginning to wrinkle their noses at me and i realize i have to stop by the store on the way home, or no one, human or not will get dinner at my house.
When I've been clawed, stepped on, body checked, snapped at, yelled at, and the client wants me to be gentle with Princess because she NEVER bit ANYONE before.
When the client argues with every item on the estimate and I am forced to explain that unfortunately veterinary care is not subsidized by the government and that pets do cost money.
When incoming bills far exceed my bank balance and someone calls me "just a technician" and I begin to ask myself why do I do this...
I help breathe life into a newborn kitten.
I feel a little pink tounge gently touch my hand as I change a bandage, and look up to see trusting eyes and hear a thumping tail acknowledge my words of encouragement.
I see clients reunited with pets they thought would never recover.
I see a catheter I placed deliver the fluids and drugs necessary to reverse shock, alleviate pain and save a life.
I am there to advocate for pets and their people at the end of life; I touch a bereaved client shoulder or hand and feel her grief and relief as she realizes somebody understands and she will not be judged.
I can laugh at puppy and kitten antics knowing that I am there to help a client make the best decision for their new kid.
I realize that my powers of observation make all the difference between life and death.
I can teach a client that a cat can live happily indoors, that neutering the dog won't ruin his personality, that "routine" surgery still calls for pain management and that dental care really can improve their pets life.
I realize that I am there, every day, living proof that there is no such thing as "just a technician".
I'm back and I'm married! Hooray! Jason and I got back from our honeymoon yesterday afternoon. We went to the chalet in North Carolina and then went to Disney on Thursday. He proposed to me at Disney, so we figured what better place to end our honeymoon then where it all began. It was great and a lot of fun.
The last month has gone by in such a blur. Becca got here on April 10 and it was so great having her around to help me and keep me on track. All of my friends were such a big support for me, my bridal party especially though. I love you all, Becca, Kat, Ashley, and Hilary!! You guys did so much for me and I can't put into words how grateful and lucky I feel to have you guys in my life.
The wedding itself was wonderful. The weather was gorgeous, bright and sunny and wonderful. The reception was a total blast. There were several glitches in the day but at that point I honestly couldn't have cared less. I just wish there had been more time. I would have loved to have been able to hang out more with my family and friends who came from out of town, but I couldn't because there was just so much to do. I was literally still finishing up things the morning of the wedding.
I can honestly say this has been the happiest time of my life, despite all the stress. Surrounded by all the people I love, supported by the greatest friends a person could ever ask for, and vowing to spend the rest of my life with the most wonderful man in the world...

star trek geekiness
Aug. 16th, 2006 11:16 pmHere is some funny funny stuff for the Star Trek fans on my friends list. Both of these items made me seriously crack up. <3 to Jason for finding them.
First, a Kirk inspirational wallpaper.

Kindergarten for pandas!!! They're so cute, I want my own baby giant panda. ;_; That's the best news report video ever.
Jason and I just got back from our grand vacation in Orlando (we left Tuesday) and it was absolutely wonderful. We went to Disney and Sea World (yay Shamu!) and saw Howl's Moving Castle (which is now rivaling Totoro for my favorite Ghibli film) and yeah, it was just amazing.
The most amazing thing happened on Wednesday at Disney. Since the "Wishes" fireworks show had made such an impression on us last time, we decided we wanted to watch them again from Tomorrow Land. So we get there just as the fireworks are starting and once again we are just awestruck at how awesome these fireworks are and listening to the narration about wishes coming true...and then Jason gets down on one knee and asks me to marry him! XD I was so dumbfounded and yeah...I just totally wasn't expecting it. And I hear all these people oohing and aaaahing around us and I just flew to the ground next to him crying and being all girly and of course I said yes. It was the most amazing and perfect thing ever. We just sat there with each other through most of the fireworks show, although we did get up and watch the end of them. And then these people that had been standing near all came over to congratulate us and tell Jason how sweet that was of him. He just really couldn't have picked a more perfect time or place. I'm still in a bit of shock, to be honest. I'm just so happy. And the ring is just so perfect and gorgeous. He keeps telling me we can exchange it for another one if I want, but I wouldn't trade this ring in for anything in the world. Its so me and so perfect and so wonderful.
So yeah, vacation was wonderful but that was definitely the highlight. Apparently he's been planning it for forever and when I caught the bouquet at Joe and Jen's wedding, it was all he and his parents could do not to laugh at the irony of it all. And there I was, all "doo doo doo" and not having any sort of clue that any of this was going on. =p But yeah, I'll post a couple pictures now and upload the rest later since I'm tired, but extremely happy. <3
Oh and in the first picture, that's actually my hand with the ring, not Jason's hand. x.x

If you are wondering why I took you off my friends list, you missed the post. If you would like to be readded to my friends list, simply comment here letting me know and if you are somebody I want to add back (no offense), I will be happy to oblige (since some of you I took off despite the fact that I actually think you're pretty nifty). :)

Yeah, my LJ is friends only. Not because I write profoundly deep and angsty thoughts, but because there are people out there I don't want reading it. No special rules about adding me (except don't add me if you just want to increase the size of your friends list). I'm a happy go-lucky person (although I have the occaisional bad day like everybody else) and I usually only update once a week or so, just whenever the urge strikes me.
